We're getting down to the final stretch in our list-making endeavor! On Friday, we worked out what titles still need votes and assigned reading as follows:

Shana- Korgi, Goosebumps, Zeus, T-Minus, Tom Sawyer, Adventures in Cartooning, Sardine

Miranda- Johnny Boo, Amelia Rules, Mouse Guard, Sardine, Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Emily Carr

Anne- Mouse Guard, Tom Sawyer, Tales from Brothers Grimm, Smile, Johnny Boo

Jason- Amelia Earhart, Wonderland, Goosebumps, Gunnerkrigg Court

These titles still need more votes and have not been assigned: Goosebumps, Zeus, Sardine from Outer Space, Tales From the Brothers Grimm, Amelia Earhart, Wonderland, and Clone Wars Adventures

Our goal date to finish our assignments is April 9 (April 16 if absolutely necessary :)). We're going to try to send an "offical tentative list" email out to the rest of the children's librarians ideally no later than April 19, so librarians have time to order items before summer. We're shooting to send the finalized list downtown by the end of August-early September, with the hope that it will hit the stands sometime in October (fingers crossed).

Our next meeting is scheduled for Friday, April 30, 2010, at Muddy Waters Coffee Shop. The plan is to discuss any feedback from the list, and talk about anything that's left on the list that was recommended- whether or not it should be added or taken off the list, and whether or not we've come across any new titles we think should be on the list.

Thanks to everyone who came for a GREAT meeting! Looking forward to the next one!

Two bits of info- you're likely to see in your email that there were a lot of changes to the reviews page- it's getting pretty sizable and I wanted to make it look pretty before archiving it. I'll probably put links on the R&R page to the archive. I guess we'll see how many reviews we get in 2010 before deciding to archive every year or every quarter, or what. If anyone has any insight or ideas, please speak up!

Secondly, Yotsuba volumes 6 AND 7 are available for purchase. Snatch them up while you can! I believe the whole series is in print right now, as Yen Press recently took over the license from ADV (who's out of business now, I think) and republished the first 5 volumes. At least that's what I've heard. I've got no citations for you. :P

Made some significant organizational changes to the wiki- make sure you check it out to become familiar with it- as always, suggestions for further organizational improvements are welcome!

ALSO- there is only one location for the booklist: it has now been deleted from the News, Meetings, and Minutes page and resides exclusively on its own page: MCLS Comics Booklist

Minutes for meeting on Friday, November 6

Present: Adrienne, Jason, Miranda

We discussed the format and scope of the booklist and decided to aim it particularly at parents who are choosing reading materials for their children. We discussed breaking the list down into categories including but not limited to the following: Wordless, Beginning Readers, Superhero, Nonfiction/Biographies, Fantasy/Sci-i, Humor, Literary Adaptations. Series would be denoted with an asterisk.

We then went through the list of comics recommended for the list and put them into categories. Some didn't fit well, so we put them into an "other" category. Miranda agreed to reorganize and republish the list in its categories.

We decided to release the list, once it is determined, to MCLS librarians before sending it to be published and reproduced so that MCLS librarians could have an opportunity to add books on the list to their collections. We decided that before books could be added to the list, they would be checked to make sure they were still in print.

Here is the list I  compiled from our last meeting. Feel free to add to it as desired. Maybe we could do something like add your name after the book if you vote yes or no. I did the first to show what I mean. How many "yes" votes should we need to include something? Three? Four? Also, if anybody has better ideas, please come forth. I haven't done this sort of thing much! (PS- this is Jason writing! Somehow Amy was still logged in! Sorry, Amy!) Also, items that are NOT in print are bolded.

(List moved- see note above -Jason)

May 21, 2009

Yesterday I made some organizational changes to the site- I combined the 2 list categories to one and combined Articles and Other Reviews- based on what has been added so far. Also added a Glossary page for any terms, awards, conventions, or other items that might not be familiar to all users of the site. Feel free to add any terms that you are not familiar with to the page so that those of us who know can link them to more imformation.

ICv2 is a journal that tracks purchasing trends in comics, anime, and games- and general pop culture news. While its primary audience is retail establishments, its predictions and statistics are also useful for librarians. The link has been added to the Online Resources page

May 18, 2009

New reviews added to KCC Reviews: Ed's Terrestrials, Pet Robots, and Dear Dracula.

May 11, 2009

Publisher news and reviews workspace added: I had this idea to create a space for publishers themselves to link to new items and websites and such. I was planning on sending out some emails to publishers of kids' comics to see what kind of response we'd get. I figure it would be a great source of raw material, so to speak, that we could potentially use for our site. -Jason

Edgar & Ellen: Graphic Novelty reviewed

June 26 meeting agenda added- please feel free to add items!

May 6, 2009

Mouse Guard 2: Winter 1152 out in July!! (I've been waiting forever for this to come out!- JP)

Jeff Smith's TOON book out this summer: Little Mouse Gets Ready
